About Me

Hello, I’m Dan.
I’m a software engineer based in London. I have a number of hobbies and interests, including gaming, Dungeons and Dragons and (obviously) cosplay.
I created this site to have somewhere to document my various cosplay projects, the process of designing and making costumes, for those among my friends (or others) who may take an interest in such things.

The Story So Far…

Whilst I have dabbled in fancy dress since my days in university (and perhaps before) I consider my own journey into cosplay as a hobby to have really kicked off in 2016. MCM London Comic Con at the end of October that year (and a subsequent Halloween party – a convenient bridge between fancy dress and cosplay if one ever existed!) saw me donning a set of costume armour, a kids’ Cyberman voice-changing helmet and a “chest piece” contraption made from a Pringles tube, some cardboard and a horrendously slapdash set of LEDs hand-soldered together.

As first forays go it could have turned out worse. But I discovered a hobby I enjoyed, the challenge of coming up with an idea, then figuring out how to assemble it from various disparate components. I also formalised the “rules” I try to follow when coming up with a cosplay project:

  • Make at least one component from “scratch”
  • Learn (or re-learn) something new during the project. Work with a new material, tool, or process.

Since then I have embarked on a number of projects for conventions, parties and other events. They have varying levels of quality, effort and (unfortunately for some) documentation, but for those I feel worthy of including here I intend to cover in “Retrospective” posts. For projects going forward I hope to document the process as I go.
